Horizon Europe Foresight Network
This group is an internal communication platform for members of the Horizon Europe Foresight Network. Members will be able to explore and exchange weak signals as well as new emerging events of disruptive nature which are related to forward-looking issues and relevant to Europe’s future. Additionally, resources such as tools and methods will be shared to explore and identify potential areas of change in order to create disruptive impact on Europe’s ability to collaboratively achieve its overarching policy goals.
Cross National Foresight Initiatives
This group is directed to researchers and policy-makers who are interested in international cooperation in R&I foresight, to explore the implications of insights into the future for EU and national R&I policies, to share ideas, tools and methods and to explore topics of common interest.
All models are approximations and therefore partly wrong. When it comes to climate change models, there seems to be a tendency to underestimate the speed of change and the severity of symptoms and effects. For example see https://twitter.com/sylvaindarwish/status/1537181101357256704?s=27&t=bFYvkXQBwDZOHykIkpg25Q.
Of course human ingenuity, inventiveness and technical prowess can help us become less vulnerable to climate change, but can we do so without making climate change worse? Are there solutions that do not increase emissions of greenhouse gases, and do not involve serious risks for health, society and the environment? In the absence of such options, it would seem that the battle against climate change is a race against the speed of change, in the same way that we engage in races against the rate of mutation in flu and corona viruses.
This is one more reason why many hope that we can transfer lessons from pandemic management to addressing climate change: see The scientific, technological and societal conditions for the end of the COVID-19 crisis - Publications Office of the EU (europa.eu)
