A new relationship to food.

In 2040, our relationship to food will be very different. The change in climate in Europe and around the world will have disrupted many traditional food production systems and we will have to be much more careful with food waste. Europe will be subjected to severe droughts, floods and random frost that affect the productivity of agriculture severely. As a result of this and pressures on food transport because of limits to energy use, the choice of food in shops will also be reduced compared to 2020 and much more linked to seasons. Overall, the price of food will have increased and food vouchers will be distributed to the poorest people. At the same time, diets will have become healthier. In response, people will have developed their cooking skills to diversify meals and reduce waste (e.g. prepare leftovers or use ingredients of lower quality). Food is no longer treated as a commodity. It has become something to respect and has regained status as one of life's basic necessities.
