The Bureau für Zeitgeschehen (BfZ), based in Frankfurt am Main, is a strategic foresight consultancy that advises decision-makers in politics, business and associations on geopolitical risks and opportunities – with the aim of making their strategies future-proof despite growing disorder and uncertainty. The Bureau helps its clients navigate the terra incognita of an increasingly unpredictable, complex and highly interconnected world. It sensitizes its public and private sector clients to the key drivers of societal change and helps to develop skills and capacities in good time. The BfZ has in-depth expertise in foreign, security and development policy. Its core topics are the impact of (global) power shifts and global trends on German and European policy and business, energy and resource security, climate change, the living environment and economic development.
The BfZ works on four continents (Europe and North America, Africa and the MENA region, Asia); Its clients include the German Federal Chancellery, the German Foreign Office, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, EU institutions and agencies, NATO, UN agencies (UNSC, UNEP, UNICEF, UNDP), the Global Crop Diversity Trust, the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), international foundations (George Soros, Bertelsmann, Bosch, Konrad Adenauer Foundation), Amnesty International, the Federation of German Industries (BDI), the German Energy Agency (dena), the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW), etc.
The BfZ cooperates closely with internationally renowned think tanks such as the Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik, the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP), the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR), the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF), the Atlantic Council and the Stimson Center, the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC, before the war in Ukraine), the European Leadership Network, and think tanks in Africa (IREN, ISS) and Asia (especially in India).
