What if the future of knowledge is not only about knowing more, but also about how we relate to knowledge itself?
This short film explores the metaphors that shape our understanding of knowledge — from familiar images of property, power and control to alternatives such as a river, a shared soup and jazz. It asks what might change if we saw knowledge less as something we possess and more as something we do: discovering, testing, practising and sharing together.
Created within the Eye of Europe project, the video is part of the series Foresight in Action – Stories on foresight practice across Europe.
The video draws on the foresight workshop The Knowledge of our Civilisation in 2040, designed and facilitated by Fraunhofer ISI in Berlin in November 2025, as part of the Eye of Europe project, funded under the Horizon Europe Programme.
